Our Worship…What to Expect:
By apostolic example we meet on the first day of every week and this is found in Acts 20:7 & 1Corinthians 16:1-2, Often a question is asked, "Do I have to go to church every Sunday?" Let us see for a moment how the 1st Century Christians viewed assembling together as a church!! Click on this next verse! Acts 2:42-47. Here we see that they met daily and devoted themselves to the apostles teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayer. These Christians had a burning desire to learn God's will and apply it to their life. Also, the author of Hebrews puts it in Hebrews 10:24-25...we are to spur one another on toward love and good deeds, continue meeting together faithfully, and to encourage one another. We can not be an encouragement to one an other if we are not assembling together!! Below, the five acts of worship that we engage in will be identified and discussed briefly.
Lord's Supper
One of the main reasons why we gather together is to remember Jesus and the sacrifice he made on the cross of Calvary for our sins!! We are eternally in debt to our Savior and we meet around the Lord's Table to remember this sacrifice on the first day of every week!! As a part of this memorial feast we partake of the unleavened bread which symbolizes his body that hung on the cross, and the pure grape juice that symbolizes his blood that was shed. Before Jesus was crucified He gave his disciples directives on eating this feast in Matthew 26:26-29. We also have further instructions that Christ gave to the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 11:23-29. It is an honor that we get to remember Christ in this fashion every Sunday!!
Singing
Singing is a huge part of our worship service! One thing you will notice when worshiping with us is...we do not use any instruments when we sing our praises to God. This makes us unique because many people are so use to singing with the accompaniment of instruments. We choose not to use instruments because God has not given us authorization to do so! The scriptures that speak about singing in the New Testament are Ephesians 5:18-20 & Colossians 3:16-17!! We must have authorization for all of our religious practices otherwise our worship will be in vain!
Prayer
In our personal relationship with friends or family, communication is essential for the relationship to grow! The same is true with our Heavenly Father!! We need to be speak with Him regularly to maintain a strong relationship! Prayer is something that is essential in every Christians life and during our worship service to God...we engage in prayer multiple times throughout the service! 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
Preaching
Every Sunday a message is brought from God's word! These sermons are geared to encourage the hearers of the message, to examine their life and make the necessary changes in comparison with the Bible. James 1:22-25 encourages us to not only listen to the word, but rather do what it says! Preaching is designed to bring the "good news" about Jesus and the salvation that we can all enjoy if we are obedient to the gospel call (Romans 10:14-15)!!
Giving
The last command we are obligated to fulfill is to give of our means as we have prospered. The Free-will offering is something that is not expected if you are visiting with us...this is strictly for the members only. But if you feel like you wanted to place something in the offering plate, that would be greatly appreciated. All money that is collected goes towards evangelizing in the community, to spread the word of God to the lost. Like previously stated, this is a free-will offering...NOT a Tithing!! Christians are not expected to give 10% of their income but rather, determine what you want to give in your heart, and give cheerfully for God loves a cheerful giver!! Please refer to the next two verses on giving in the New Testament. 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 & 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
